18-year-old Zambian striker joins Swedish club
Top Swedish club Djurgarden IF has signed a four-year contract with 18-year-old Zambian international Edward “the Tiger” Chilufya.
A report on the club’s website described the striker and midfielder as a player with many great qualities.
Chilufya, who featured prominently for the victorious Zambian Under-20 team that hosted and won the African U-20 Championship last year, is said to be a player with a lot of speed, good dribbling skills and a scorer of many goals. He scored five times at the championship.
Last June the youngster moved to Sweden on trial with Djurgarden, who placed 3rd in the premier football championship last year.
“His good patience has been one of these important traits, considering that the process of becoming a DIF player has taken some time,” the website reported.
“I have taken time and felt a lot of confidence in Djurgården that has taken very good care of me,” says Edward, who is happy and proud that all papers are now ready.
“It feels very good to be able to sign for Djurgården. This is my first contract with a European club and it is great for me.”
“I am quick and fast with the ball. Good at dribbling and creating chances, it’s well my strongest qualities if I’m going to highlight some.
Chilufya, who went through the ranks at Mpande Academy where he received a good football training, said “I’m young and don’t hurry so I take it step by step”
It has been a long journey also for sports manager Bosse Andersson who, just as Edward, felt a strong confidence and let things take the time required for everything to land right.
“It feels very good for us that Edward has now signed a four-year contract and joins the squad. He is young and has characteristics that are very exciting with his speed, skill and professionalism where he can play in both the Under-21, U21 and A-team.”
