Liberia: Freeport to provide 24-hour service
Beginning May the freeport of Monrovia in Liberia will run a 24-hour service.
A release from the National Port Authority (NPA) said the upgrade is due to the installation of navigational aids by world renowned supplier Pharos Marine in compliance with regulations of the International Association of Light House Authority.
The work is expected to be completed by April 30 while a ceremony to officially commission the navigational aids takes place next month.
The release added that a statement from the NPA noted the upgrade will ensure safe 24 hours marine operations, quick vessel turnaround time, more revenue for the government, more vessel calls, complete berthing and sailing of vessels at night beginning May 2016 ( first in 30 plus years) and job creation.
The NPA management extends its appreciation to the President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for her continuous support in the modernization of the port sector, including this milestone event which is a game changer in the shipping world, the release concluded.
