African players are at the helm of the scoring charts of  Sweden’s two top football championships.

Eritrean striker Henok Goitom leads the pack in the country’s premier male football championship, the Allsvenskan, with 15 goals in 23 matches  while Cameroonian goal machine Gaelle Enganamouit has been banking the goals this season for Ekilstuna United DFF in the female championship. She leads with 16 goals from 18 matches.

Goitom, the holder of a Swedish passport who has represented the country in the junior ranks  but has reportedly expressed an interest to play for Eritrea at the senior level, has been in sparkling form this season and his goals have lifted AIK to second place with a chance to lift the title.

Also, Zimbabwean striker Nyasha Mushekwi, who has had a dry spell recently, is third with 12 strikes. His form in the early stages of the league led Djurdgaden to extend his loan contract from South African side, Mamelodi Sundowns.

Other notable African strikers in the Swedish championship include Goitom’s AIK teammate Mohamed Bangoura. The Sierra Leonean attacker has appeared on the scorecard eight times this season.  Liberia’s Sam Johnson of Djurgarden and Falkenberg’s Nigerian hitman Hakeem Araba are tied on six  while Gambian Pa Amat Dibba, playing for Sundsvall, has hit the net five times.

In the female division, the Damallsvenskan, Galle Enganamouit, who is in her second season at league leaders Ekilstuna, is a dominating figure. The Cameroonian international who became the first African player to score a hat-trick at the female World Cup (in Cameroon’s 6-0 demolition of Ecuador), has hit the league with storm and more is expected of her.
