The General Manager of the Liberian Agricultural Company (LAC) has congratulated and extended best wishes to citizens of Liberia on the celebration of the country’s 174^th Independence Day on July 26.

Vijay Maira said independence was achieved because of the sacrifices made by the forefathers.

The LAC boss said that this is an occasion to pay tribute to the freedom fighters, martyrs, and brave souls and the spirit of dedication towards the creation of a free Liberia.

Mr. Maira stressed that ‘’this is the time to remember the sacrifices, sincerely and wholeheartedly. Independence is festival to celebrate freedom. It is an occasion to infuse new energy, exuberance and enthusiasm’’

He highlighted that Liberia is country of young people and must endeavor to become self-reliant and move away from dependence on others.

The youth must acquire skills as the nation needs engineers, doctors, technicians, masons, carpenters, IT specialists, geologists, agriculturists etc, he added.

Mr. Maira said “we must dream big and utilize our resources to their fullest potential.”

The LAC general manager emphasized that the company has always promoted quality education in its school system and will continue to do so in the future as well.

He said ‘’our immediate need is to become self-sufficient in food production and gain economic independence” and Liberians must work towards these goals.

He pointed out that as the country continues to go through an extraordinary situation due to the corona pandemic, he supports the hundreds of corona warriors: doctors, nurses, sanitation workers, ambulance drivers and all others who are part of the country’s healthcare system.

He saluted the health practitioners as they have been there to always the battle the virus and other illnesses adding that “service is the best religion and had it not been for them, we wouldn’t have remained safe.”

Mr. Maira noted that since last year many have suffered from the pandemic and some even lost their lives.

He expressed condolences to the bereaved families, adding that Liberians can overcome the second wave of the coronavirus and keep themselves safe by following the guidelines issued by the health authorities.  

He revealed that the healthcare staff at LAC is doing a good job in making sure that the residents stay safe and healthy.

He said in the LAC management recently purchased three additional oxygen concentrators, making a total to six, to facilitate the healthcare work.

The LAC boss added that ‘’the management of the company also prepared isolation walls, just in case the situation worsens. Sufficient stock of Personal Protective Equipment, drugs and equipment have been procured’’.

‘’As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure and we have the responsibility of protecting ourselves by wearing a mask in public, maintaining social distance and regularly washing hands,” he noted.

He added that LAC has donated buckets, chlorine and other assistance within and around the LAC plantation.
