EFLA condemns attack on Liberian opposition leaders
The European Federation of Liberian Associations (EFLA) strongly condemns the recent attacks on opposition leader Alex Cummings and Representative Yekeh Kolubah in Grand Gedeh.
Both opposition figures were in the county for political purposes when youths, believed to be sympathizers of the ruling Congress for Democratic Change, demanded, under the threat of violence,
for Representative Kolubah to leave the county.
EFLA notes that it is anti-peace and anti-democratic for any Liberian or group of Liberians to be prevented from freely exercising their rights in any part of the country and that such violence actions have the potential to return the country to the gory days of the civil war.
Preventing any Liberian from exercising his or her rights, EFLA adds, violates the constitution, and must be strongly condemned by all Liberians so as to maintain peace in the country.
EFLA calls on the government to objectively investigate the incident and punish the culprits.
