Africa week in Finland begins on November 18
Think Africa, an organization that promote collaboration between Finland and African countries, will hold an Africa week in the Finnish capital of Helsinki beginning on November 18.
Called Think Africa Week, the event, says the organization, is “an annual week-long program that centres around the increasing interest in the many possibilities and opportunities between Finland and African countries.”
The organization, headed by Myriam Munezero, encourages attendance to the “inspiring and informative events, plenary sessions and speakers; highlighting the “opportunities for collaboration and investment” in addition to the great networking opportunities and being part of building a strong community.
The organizers look forward to the attendance of policy makers, diasporans, entrepreneurs, investors, civic societies, community builders, researchers, and students, all individuals and entities with an interest or connection to the African continent.
Speakers will be drawn from different backgrounds. The event will end on November 23.
First held in 2013 Think Africa Week is the brainchild of a group of students with mutual interest towards development and Africa with the aim to provide a platform where actors from different backgrounds, yet with common curiosity towards the continent and its’ people, would blend together, exchange knowledge, experiences and thoughts and, who knows, maybe even build teams and create ideas never seen before.
“Another goal was to update people’s images about Africa. The African continent is a lot more diverse than the common media image lets us believe. Therefore, the week wanted to bring some depth and width to people’s’ mindsets about the continent, and show that Africa is far more than just poverty or constant struggle. To us, it is more about creativity, hybridity and unused potential.” notes Think Africa.
